Your windows,
back where you left them.
Unplug, sleep, plug back in. Deskback remembers where every window goes for each monitor setup and restores them on its own. No setup. No window manager.
One-time purchase · No subscription · 14-day money-back guarantee
Signed & notarized by Apple · macOS 14+ · Apple silicon & Intel · No account · Nothing leaves your Mac
You undock your MacBook.
Every window piles onto the laptop screen.
You plug the monitor back in. They stay there.
You spend the next two minutes dragging them back. Again.
Install it. Forget it.
Allow Accessibility.
The only permission it asks for. No Screen Recording, no account.
Work like you always do.
Deskback quietly learns your layout for each desk — home, office, laptop only.
Undock, sleep, redock.
Your windows go back where they were. You don't open anything.
The annoying parts, handled.
Built from real complaints about the alternatives: the wrong sizes, the progress popups, the three Safari windows that end up in one place.
Lives in your menu bar.
A live map of your displays, what it remembers, and one-click restore or undo. Nothing pops up on its own.
Sleep and wake
Waits for macOS to settle, then restores. No fighting the system.
Plug, unplug, switch desks
One layout per monitor setup, recognized automatically — even two identical monitors.
Many windows, same app
Three Safari windows go back to three places.
Different screen sizes
Sizes are restored, not squashed.
One-click undo
Didn't like a restore? Undo it in one click.
Named layouts that open your apps
Save “Office” with Spotify and WhatsApp on screen 1. A shortcut — or turning on your Mac — opens what's missing and puts every window in place.
Stays quiet
No progress windows. No popups. ~0% CPU when idle.
The part that matters, for less.

Competitor details come from their public pages and may change. macOS restores windows in simple cases, like quickly replugging the same monitor; it's the sleep, clamshell and desk-switching cases that go wrong.
Honest limits
- Spaces. Windows on the current Space are restored right away; windows on other Spaces are restored when you switch to them. Full Spaces support isn't promised for 1.0.
- Full-screen and minimized windows are left alone on purpose.
- Some apps ignore move requests through Accessibility. If Deskback isn't sure which window is which, it doesn't move it.
Private by design
- Runs 100% on your Mac. No account, no analytics, no servers.
- Network only for the license check and updates.
- Works offline for 30 days between license checks.
- Needs Accessibility only — never Screen Recording.
Pay once. Keep it forever.
Launch price for the first 200 buyers. Then $14.99 — for real.

Questions
Is this a window manager?
No. It doesn't tile or snap anything. It remembers where your windows were and puts them back when your monitor setup comes back.
Why does it need Accessibility permission?
macOS only lets apps move other apps' windows through Accessibility. Deskback uses it to read and set window positions — nothing else. It doesn't read what's inside your windows.
Does it need Screen Recording?
No.
Doesn't macOS already do this?
Sometimes — for example when you quickly unplug and replug the same monitor. It tends to fail after longer sleeps, in clamshell mode, when you switch desks, or when you opened windows in between. Deskback covers those.
Does it work with Spaces?
Partly. Windows on the current Space are restored right away, and windows on other Spaces are restored when you switch to them. Full Spaces support isn't promised for 1.0.
Can it open apps that aren't running?
Yes, for layouts you save on purpose. The automatic restore never opens anything.
Why not Stay? It costs nothing.
Stay is a good idea. Deskback also handles several windows of the same app, restores sizes across different screens, and doesn't show a progress window every time your screens change. And you have 14 days to get your money back.
Why not WinPin?
WinPin is a full window manager for $34.95 and needs macOS 15. If you only want your windows back where they were, Deskback does that for $9 on macOS 14 and later.
What if you stop developing it?
It keeps working. There's no server it depends on, and the license works offline for 30 days between checks.
Is it a subscription?
No. You pay once and the license never expires. All 1.x updates are included.
Why is there no free trial?
Because a refund is simpler for you: buy it, try it on your own desk, and if it doesn't do the job within 14 days, send one email and get your money back. No questions.
How many Macs?
3 per license.
Refunds?
14 days, no questions. Email hello@deskback.app.
Stop dragging windows around.
